The repeater is transmitting in a mode your radio can not decode. Your radio will still receive the signal but because it isn’t decoding it your radio is set to not open up the speaker.

You are hearing digital data being transmitted by the repeater. Some of it may sound like traditional packet and some more like static. Exactly what you hear depends on the mode (DMR, P25, NXDN, etc.) the repeater is transmitting in. You need a radio that uses one of the digital modes supported by the repeater to monitor and talk on the repeater.

Our repeaters are capable of operating in several different digital voice modes. When you hear voice the repeater is operating in the mode your radio uses. When you hear digital noise or what sounds like static the repeater is operating in a different digital mode than your radio is capable of decoding. You should be able to adjust your settings so you will not hear the other digital modes.
